Lighting Council Australia welcomes the Federal Government’s HomeBuilder

06 Jul 2020

Lighting Council Australia (LCA) welcomes the announcement by the Morrison Government on Thursday, 4 June 2020 of its HomeBuilder assistance. HomeBuilder will provide eligible owner-occupiers with a grant of $25,000 to build a new home or renovate an existing home and a much-needed boost to residential construction.

"The lighting industry is being impacted by the construction slow-down due to COVID-19 and this federal government assistance will provide a much needed boost", said David Crossley, Lighting Council Australia's National Technical Manager.

Crossley went on to offer the following advice on purchasing lighting equipment. "Quality LED lights are widely available, highly efficient, provide smooth operation and will reduce energy bills over their long lifetimes." Crossley also cautioned homeowners, electricians and builders about attempting to import their own lights, "as there are considerable risks involved if the products don't meet Australian Standards", he said.

"Those about to purchase LEDs should first read Lighting Council Australia's LED Buyers Guide which has been endorsed by Master Electricians and the Hon Angus Taylor MP, Minister for Energy and Emissions Reduction", urged Crossley.
