Thai Foundry Association (TFA) Visits GIFA

25 Aug 2015

In June a party of TFA members spent 3 days checking out the latest developments and equipment on show at the "Bright World of Metals" GIFA exhibition in Dusseldorf. The party enjoyed sightseeing in Amsterdam and also visited the Isselburg Guss und Bearbeitung Gmbh plant at Isselburg in Germany. The company, which is situated close to the border with the Netherlands, produces around 28,000 tonne per annum of finished machined automotive components such as flywheels, brake discs, engine and transmission parts, etc. in flake, compacted and ductile irons. The visit was especially interesting to the TFA members from the Thai automotive castings sector.

Later on 26th June at the Manufacturing EXPO event, which ran from 24-27th June at the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC), the TFA organized a one day seminar on "Gating, Risering & Casting Design for Iron Casting" which was presented by Dr. Sarum Boonmee from the School of Metallurgical Engineering, Suranaree University of Technology. In spite of the current slowdown in the economy the four day Manufacturing EXPO show, which was organized by Reed Tradex, was attended by 55,000 visitors of which some 4,000 delegates in total attended 62 seminar/conference sessions on topics across the manufacturing spectrum but with main emphasis on the automotive industry. Seminars of interest to casting producers included: "Lightweight Material and Production Technology" and "Automotive Component Safety and Testing Regulation" which were both organized by the Thai Automotive Institute (TAI) and particularly, the topic "Robotic Automation system for improvement in productivity and quality of die-casting" organized by the Thai-German Institute (TGI).
